SIATech (School for Integrated Academics and Technologies)

School for Integrated Academics and Technologies (SIATech) is a fully accredited network of charter high schools with school sites in Arkansas, California, and Florida. SIATech is one of the few schools that focus on dropout recovery and helping students who have been out-of-school get back on-track to high school graduation. By creating Individualized Learning Plans for each student upon enrollment, the school helps each student recognize his or her strengths, set goals, and formulate a plan to achieve those goals. SIATech works in partnership with workforce training programs. These partnerships provide additional services to SIATech students. These services vary by school site and may include housing, vocational training, health services, counseling, and more.
== History ==
The first SIATech school site was established in 1998 at the Inland Empire Job Corps Center in San Bernardino, CA. Leadership at the Job Corps Center recognized the need for a high school program to serve its trainees that did not complete high school and preferred the attainment of a high school diploma rather than a GED. The flexibility of a charter school was the answer, and a partnership was formed. Additional high school sites were then opened on all the Job Corps centers in California, including Long Beach (1998), Los Angeles (1999), Sacramento (1999), San Diego (1999), San Jose (1999), and Treasure Island (in San Francisco) (2000). In California, SIATech is chartered by the Vista Unified School District and accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).〔http://www.siatech.org/schools/index.php〕
Due to SIATech's success at re-engaging previous dropouts, additional Job Corps centers became interested in providing a high-quality high school option for its student-trainees. In 2001, Arizona SIATech was chartered in the state of Arizona. Campuses were opened in Phoenix and at the Fred G. Acosta center in Tucson. The SIATech campuses in Arizona are accredited by NCA CASI (North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement). In 2003, SIATech was awarded charters to operate high schools on a district-by-district basis in Florida. These high schools include SIATech school sites at Job Corps centers in Gainesville (2003), Homestead (2004), Jacksonville (2004), and Miami (2004). SIATech schools in Florida are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). In 2004, SIATech Albuquerque was granted a charter in the state of New Mexico, and the school is accredited by NCA CASI.〔(Institution Summary ), AdvancED, Retrieved 2012-07-08〕
SIATech continues to provide services to Job Corps students. SIATech's high school program has received attention from other workforce programs as well. In 2009, SIATech formed a partnership with a Workforce Investment Act One-Stop Career Center in El Centro, CA. This SIATech school site differs from the Job Corps center partnership in that the students do not actively live on site and it is an Independent Study Program for these at-risk students who qualify for services from the WIA One Stop. Like the SIATech Job Corps school sites, the El Centro campus is WASC-accredited and students are working toward a high school diploma. In 2010, SIATech opened a site at the Greater Miami Service Corps. This school site provides a classroom-based program for students receiving job training and other services through the Service Corps. It is also SACS-accredited.
As of July 2014, more than 13,500 re-engaged students have earned their high school diploma through SIATech schools.
